Is Boosting Bad? Your Facebook Ads Questions

There’s a lot of questions around boosting on Facebook. You’ve probably seen the boost button before. It’s at the bottom of your posts, allowing you to advertise your page. You may even be boosting right now! But is it a good idea?

Some say it’s good. Some say it’s bad. What’s the deal? People are often confused about this.

If you’re new to the world of Facebook Advertising then you’ve got to start somewhere right? That place is boosting.

Gaining an understanding of what it is and how it works will help to increase your visibility. To get your message out further. Your event attendance increases. More people redeem your offers. You get more engagement. When your message never gets seen, what fun is that?

If you ask me, boosting is good. It’s part of the learning process for better ads. From just learning how to do your FIRST boost, to your BEST boost, it’s important to understand what it is and how it works.

With boosting, you just get more engagement. Engagement meaning likes, comments, and shares.

The main idea to keep in mind is posts that already have good engagement tend to perform even better when boosted. This is key!

According to local photographer Wilzdesign, “I Boosted a local event keeping it close to the demographics the event engagement was already seeing, then saw more engagement because of the boost.” This is a great approach to boosting.

Still not sure if it’s good or bad?

If your goal is to start using Facebook advertising for your business, then boosting is just a great way to learn. In that way, I do recommend that you use it. Please make sure you’re doing it correctly though.

The top three common mistakes I see people making are:

  1. Boosting for a whole month instead of a few days.
  2. Not specifying a geographic location and having it reach people anywhere in Washington.
  3. Not choosing the right interests for targeting.

Three extra tips to help you better understand boosting:

  • Keep your budget low when first starting. $10 per boosted post will give you enough data to see how it went.
  • Specify a location such as your city. Focus on reaching your city first, before branching out to out to cities nearby.
  • Take a couple minutes to reflect how it went. Facebook will email you afterwards. Click the link in the email and see how it went. Was it well-received? Ignored? Engaging? Taking that second look will help you improve for the next time you go to boost.

Boosting is just one of the 12 Facebook ad objectives that can really help your business. If you’re not doing Facebook Advertising, or you don’t understand its powerful potential, let’s talk! Feel free to send me a message.
