Review of LinkedIn Events Feature

From LinkedIn

Business-to-business professionals from my network have asked me about LinkedIn Events, so I created a few of my own to see how it works.

Whether you’re looking to host your own event or find new events to attend, here’s what I like and dislike about it, and how it can help you.

Target New People For Your Events

Many of my LinkedIn connections I’m not friends on Facebook with. Having events on LinkedIn gives me the chance to invite new people to events that I otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. This is huge.

The events can also be private, which you can’t do on your Facebook Business Page. This is a great option for organizing that low-key meetup with your professional network.

Discovery

If you’ve been on LinkedIn lately, you’ll often see that a connection is attending an event happening soon. Events can be discovered by connections of those that registered. This is a great way to find new events or to help your event reach more people.

From LinkedIn

When posting a new update about the event, attendees will receive a notification. This happens with Facebook Events as well, which is a great way to keep the audience informed and engaged. Event attendees get a reminder for an event 7 days, 3 days, and 15 minutes prior to it starting, so making your event far enough in advance will help your event get noticed.

New Features

First launched for LinkedIn profiles, events are also now available for company pages.

LinkedIn Live is now part of LinkedIn Events. Access to LinkedIn Live is available by application only. Click here to learn more about LinkedIn Live! Including the featured speakers is another new feature for events on the platform.

The main dislike I noticed was where to find LinkedIn events. If you scroll down and look close, you’ll see a Community panel on the left side of your newsfeed. (To find your newsfeed simply visit the LinkedIn main home page). The Community panel can also be opened on mobile by tapping your profile pic, top left, then scroll down.

My recommendation? I encourage you to use this! Especially for those who work business-to-business and are looking for networking or industry learning opportunities.

If you end up creating an event on LinkedIn I’d love to hear how it went… did it work? Did it not work?

Also, please let me know what social media tools or techniques you’re curious about. I’ll consider writing about it in my next post!
